Facebook paid ads are not for every business, but for certain types of businesses, they can be super profitable. It really depends on the type of business and service you have, but I highly recommend running a Facebook ad to test out the effectiveness of your business.
Often times, your goal isn't even to get an instant customer, but rather to give away a free report that does some presales work for you, or to sign people up to informational webinars.
It just depends on what your business does, but there is almost always a way to create a simple landing page for Facebook Paid ads, and then get some very targeted, low cost clicks from Facebook.
Again, I would recommend a small daily budget, watch it every day, and be sure to use call tracking analytics so you know how many phone calls, or website inquiries you get.
